Hi everyone. Enjoyed my first meeting with some of the crew here. Stubbsy with his wine expertise (seriously), Birdy with his awesome generosity (he let me use his D2x - what a champ), Sheepy with his powerful laugh, and Radar who was the first to contact me after I got lost!!!
Here is one of my shots on the day. Just curves, levels, USM. No 'manipulation' or HDR trickery, just one frame. We were really luck with the clouds and light.
I encourage the others to post their pics - especially Stubbsy (that pic you showed me of the demolished site)

The exif is still intact in the posted image (I hope), but here it is anyway:
f/8 1/125 sec Aperture Priority, 12mm (18mm film equivalent) (12-24 f/4), 200 ISO, Hoya Ultra CP.

hi Heath, stunning image
do you get the high contrast from the Hoya Ultra CP.?
is the CP filter some kind of polarizer?

That's a real stunner, Heath. Beautiful shot.
You should just get a free account on Photobucket. It's free as long as you keep your compressed images under 250Kb or something like that. Quality is quite good.

Hi Heath,
glad you found them in the end. It was a great day at Anna Bay, Boat Harbour and Stockton beach. We were at Birddog's place in the morning while the rain was coming down. Now I am starting to understand all this lens lust I've been reading about
Heath, I use http://www.pixspot.com to post my pictures. Till I get my paying account at smugmug, works pretty good for now.
Anyway here are a couple of photos.
Next stop, Sydney
I had the ISO a bit high at ISO800, so it came out a bit more grainy that I would have liked.
This one is "On tap - Stockton Bitter"
Certainly the most novel way I have seen to have beer on tap
The blades may look a bit out of focus, but that's because I was playing with fast shutter speeds to see if I could "freeze" them. It was fairly windy on Saturday.
Cheers,

Love that bus stop radar! The bus actually stopped there... close enough anyway.
Thanks all for the web sites - is smugbug the one people here prefer - how much does it cost?
edit - sorry I forgot - the contrast was attained by a mix of curves, USM (used not to only sharpen, but to 'punch up', by using a wide pixel rating and a small percentage rating), and levels.

Very nice sheepie! You have done well!
I remembered now: I was in front of you and you asked me to step away.
This call "The Tin City", it's in the middle of sand dunes on Stockton beach.
We will come back to this area for sun rise and sunset shooting in Spring.
I'll have a winch attached to my truck at that time.

Hi Matt,
original discussion is at:
http://www.d70users.com/viewtopic.php?t=6637
It is Stockton Beach, north of Newcastle. The beach goes from Stockton to Anna Bay (south of Nelson Bay). You do need a 4WD or be with Birddog, like I did
It is a pretty amazing place, lots to explore and always changes. Even though I have lived in Newcastle for 15 years, this was my first visit, but not my last
Cheers,
Radar.

Matt,
We'll see how we go, perhaps will have another one after the AW or end of August.
There're many places, good spots + subjects for photography,
Sheepie stayed at the Birubi caravan park with beach front, and miles of sand dunes with experiences of 4WD on the sand & beach, I think the group might stay there or few spots around the area.
Thanks Heath Bennett for his winch to give my truck's gear box re-engaged and camaraderie from Stubssy, Sheepie, Radar.
We have had lot of fun.

Some excellent pics from a great day.
Heath - your work is just fantastic. This is yet another great shot from you. Where are the rest from this day.
Andre - really like the bus stop. A nice quirky image, well captured.
Leon. Nice pic of Heath practicing his swing (or not ). The pano works well - I intended to do one, then completely forgot about it . I look forward to the rest of your pics.

Heath your photo is amazing. Its hard to believe it is not a merge given the great exposure in foreground and sky. Congratrulations on achieving this result with the one shot. Gotta love good light!

Thought I'd post a D2x image.
D2x, 17-35, f/8, used PS to mimic polariser. Fairly basic pic, bit awestruck... just couldn't believe I was holding a D2x... Sounds like a machine gun, such a weapon.
Was suprised by the amount of dynamic range the D2x has, seems to be better than my D70. The clouds were only slightly blown, and it was a fairly difficult situation that any camera would struggle with.

8FPS, 100%...
Hmm. Just thought I'd post a 100% crop from the D2x for the pixel peeps. There is no way you could ever notice the VERY slight moire in the water behind, my conclusion being they have got all the detail they possibly can out of the 12.4 MP sensor, without going too far. Very well done I believe.
Extremely high acuity.

That is the D2x was designed for! and I love it.
You have played with it so never you'll come back to the D70! unless you been asked to return it to the owner
Again, if you want more excercise on this beast, End of August! I'll loan it to you a day while we are on the second workshop at the Stockton beach and sand dunes.

When you are in church today, you may find some change on the floor, to help with your D2x purchase
