 Apologies if this has alread been posted elsewhere, I couldn't see it anywhere.    I just read this on the Qantas webpage, for those that are interested:
 QANTAS Newsroom wrote:"In Sydney, the aircraft will fly over the harbour on Sunday 15 November*, with local vantage points providing excellent opportunities to view the aircraft inflight," Mr Borghetti said.
 Qantas was the first airline to sign a contract for the A380 and will take delivery of the first of its 12 aircraft in April 2007.
 
 * Note the aircraft will pass over Sydney Harbour from north to south and east of the Sydney Harbour Bridge at 2100 feet and be accompanied by a small jet that will be undertaking aerial filming. This will take place as many as three times. The flyover will provide excellent opportunities for members of the public to view the aircraft.

 Here are my photos of the A380 landing at Sydney... 
 With a bit of aviation help from thaddeus, we managed to figure out which runway would be used, so I drove out to the Radar Field lookout which is right in the middle of the restricted space. There's some construction going on there at the moment, so there were large earth mounds right next to the fenceline. Unfortunately I wasn't the only one who'd figured out the best location - there were hundreds of people there!!!
 The wind did a quick swap on us right at the end causing a mad dash for position on top of the mounds... I managed to get a reasonable spot... 
 All shots were taken with the Nikkor 80-400VR - many were quite soft due to the heat haze, but these ones came out OK... 
   Of course - the journos had an even better vantage point than us.

 The funny bulging belly makes it look bent from below.
 Now the question is, will we get cheaper airfares now that they can stuff so many more people in one aeroplane? I just fancy a cheap long-weekend in Paris.  What's funny about the #4 shot is that if you don't look closely at it, you'd think it's just another 737 because it doesn't look that big because there is no reference to compare it to.  Then if you look closely you realise, it's got two levels and 4 engines and start to realise it's a big plane  Darryl  (aka Kipper)Nikon D200

 This norning's paper discussed the savings that can be made due to the aircraft's inheritant efficiency in comparison to current airliners. It added words to the effect of "it will be up to individual airlines as to whether or not they pass those savings on to the passenger".
 I guess we know what NOT to expect.

 Manta, I also read a few months back the cost of fuel in relation to the total running costs of an airline, with historical data from say now, to five years, back to 10years back, to 15years back.  It used to be only about a 3-5% cost, now it's up around the 20% mark if my memory from the article serves me correctly. Darryl  (aka Kipper)Nikon D200
