Actually, the Digic chips have little to do with their sensor technilogy, and much to do with the actual signal processing after the image has been captured. These days you'll find digic in pretty well every Canon digicam, from the lowly PHDs through to the DSLRs. Given that their PHDs use the Sony CCD sensors .... If this 10MP sensor is CCD, it would be very interesting to compare with D2X's 12MP CMOS in terms of image acuity. I would suspect this could be an of eye opener for some.
Yes, from a PPP (pixel peeping perspective) this may be true. From a real world, let's drop this image onto my printer perspective, thter's probably less to, er, be seen. g.Gary Stark

It looks similar to the MB-D100 to me! battery pack and vertical grip of the D100.
Who knows, the MB-D100 may fits.

 I'm intrigued.
Look at the topview of the D200 - look at the hotshoe.

The contacts for the flash, apart from the external ground, appear to be there, but they're black. Some form of carbon contact???

I'd say it's much more likely that this was a pre-production mockup and the metal contacts were missing. Those look like they could be holes in the plastic where the contacts will go.

Has anyone else noticed that the D200 is probably going to be announced on the same day that the Melbourne cup is run? Also has anyone else noticed that the cost of said camera is approximately the usual Trifecta dividend?
 Coincidence I think not...
Better start studying the form If I'm alone in a forest and my wife is not around to hear what I say, am I still wrong ??

So why not flick Maxwell and buy through Poon? Using the US RRP ($1700) as a guide:
D200 = AUD 2270.00 (todays exchange rate) + shipping AUD80.00 + GST AUD 235 = $2585.00. That's a $1315 better deal than Maxwell As far as warranty issues go, Mr Poon has proved himself to be a man of integrity and so I have no concerns that he would honour any warranty issues that might arise. Anyway with the money you saved by not buying from Maxwell, you can buy a D70s body to keep you snapping whilst your D200 is flying to HK and back If I'm alone in a forest and my wife is not around to hear what I say, am I still wrong ??

All i can say about the whole subject is will wait till it is fair dinkhum and on site. If warranty was such an issue on some of tese bodies i gather Poon would sell a lot. So we all have to put up with Maxwell prices, what choice have we got, but yeh will be interesting, time will tell. More sexy shots of this sexy beast they call the D200, along with some sexy accessories. The grip however looks a bit fake - reminds me too much of third party grips for the D70.
http://www.kosoof.com/archive/2005/Oct/29/335.php 17-55 and D200 = a match made in heaven (at least visually, IMHO)!

In case anyone missed the original D200 leak, here's a link to someone hosting the flash file:
http://www.christianmusicianradio.com/d200/ Also, I noticed someone mention wondering why Ken "I saw it in a shop window once" Rockwell hadn't done a review yet... actually: http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/d200.htm It's not really a review so much as a reiteration of the leaked specs, but it DOES have quite a few HUGE pics of the D200 with the 18 - 200mm AFS-VR f/3.5 - 5.6G. Pretty cool.Anthony

An 18-200mm would be a nice focal length.
Having just spent the last four days changing lenses at a rally (of all places to have to do this) I got well and truly sick of it. A 70-200 might be good for some shots, but you quickly find yourself to close to the action, and cropping out some of your intended image.

I want that new lens and a D200, because I also found three frames a second way to slow to quickly capture fast action.

I guess I want my cake, and a chance to eat it to.

Bring on this new camera. I'll buy one. But not from bloddy maxwell though, they can stick their prices where the SB800 dont shine.

I just hope when the full specs come out it's all that we want it to be or in most part anyway. I would really like improve ISO band (say 100-1600) with better noise characteristics(cleaner image at high ISO), 1/500sec flash synch, better capture rate of raw files before lockout. If not may consider waiting and continue to save. I must admit though it does look attractive, especially with the grip. cheers

It just so happens Chris that being the ol' mother tongue Well this is by far the most comprehensive of the specs released.
*ISO 100 -1600 and H1 0f 3200 (wonder how noise is handled?) It gives this a rap. This sounds great *the intro is typical spin from nikon about the princess of nikons Japanese DSLR lineup
*37 jpeg fine and 22 Raw at 5fps
*unfortunately a new design cam1000 not the D2X cam2000 still a lot better than D70
*excellent contrast luminosity and colour reproduction of the 3D color matrix11
 * 30000 programmed scenes used to develop exposure quickly and accurately
 * a new pass optical filter to reduce CA and moire effects and improves resolving power
 * new mod es to optimise image quality
 * wireless ability and socket for use of studio strobes/lights
 * 50ms shutter release and ready ofr action again
I'll read on after this quick glance.
 cheers

 MultiCAM 1000.....so Nikon has produced another AF system so we now have CAM900 (5pt), CAM1000 (11pt), CAM1300 (5pt) and CAM2000 (11pt).
I bet MultiCAM 1000 is a butchered version of MultiCAM 2000, and is somewhere in between CAM900 and CAM2000.

Sigh....guess the D2X is back on the books if the test runs of this camera sucks.

Calm down Kipper The is no evidence that because 1000 is a lower number than 2000 or 1300 for that matter that the AF is inferior... Perhaps Nikon have decided to change the numbering system for their AF? I would guess that in performance it is way above CAM900 and falls somewhere between 1300 and 2000. They were never going to give the D200 the same AF as the D2x, otherwise no one would cough up the extra thousands for the "flagship" camera. If I'm alone in a forest and my wife is not around to hear what I say, am I still wrong ??

The range of Nikon digital SLR’s is produced to fit into a price bracket and as such the criteria for usage is determined by this price.
Kipper - if you require CAM2000 you have the choice of the D2X or D2Hs (and D2H) add to that the other criteria required, such as pixel count or mirror lock up and eventually you will arrive at the mod el you require.
With your already acquired 500mm lens (+TC), Wimberley Sidekick etc - the answer is obvious - the D2X Chris--------------------------------

Things that look good (not counting things you would assume):
ISO 100 to 1600 +HI 1 (3200) - assuming noise demons under control
 Lots of WB options
 2.5" LCD
 Pentaprism not pentamirror
Viewfinder up there with D2 series - BIG PLUS
 MLU - Another big plus
 Vertical grip
Same battery (size) as D70 - my spare wont go to waste
 ISO in VF
23 shot (NEF) buffer at 5fps - a huge leap compared to the D70
Picture Project CD - this camera comes with a free beer coaster!!

 So-So or Bad:
Compressed NEF only - thought we might get an option there
"Only" 95% VF coverage - still better than D70
CAM 1000. What is it exactly. Will read reviews with interest
Only 1/250 flash sync. Can't understand why a CCD suddenly can't do 1/500

The US price looks really good, sort of cheaper of what I expected...
Regarding the camera itself, I guess it will come down to image quality at high ISO, viewfinder clarity, and AF performance.
