Nikon 60mm F2.8 micro?

Postby feldy on Sun Feb 22, 2009 2:43 pm

Have been considering getting the 24-70 but given price constraints [credit crunch, recession, redundancy etc blah, blah ] am going to have to curb my ambitions a little... have already got the 85mm 1.4 and 18-200 VR [walkaround] and was thinking of a new fixed lens to boost my low-light armoury. Was thinking of the 50mm 1.4, but pro-friend suggested the 60mm 2.8 micro. He said this is a beautiful lens - the sharpest Nikon has ever produced, but haven't seen much mention of it...

Has anyone got this lens, or got any experience they can share of it?

Do you mean the older f/2.8D? If so, I have this lens and it is beautiful. It is the lens I used the most often.

According to Bjørn Rørslett, the newer f/2.8G is sharper but I am more than happy with the results from my f/2.8D, especially for macro work.

I have always regretted getting rid of my Nikor 60mm Micro. If you buy one you will not be dissapointed.

I have a copy of the D version, my only prime, and I love it. It is tack sharp, a great portrait lens but then you already have one of those in the 85mm f 1.4. And would you believe It's also great for macro's although you do have to get in very close. I will not be parting with this lens...ever.

The AFS is very good for focusing and things but the AFD version is very good optically as well, for me I would go with the AFS just for focusing speed.
