Hi All,

To those with a 70-200VR lens can you tell me if it can rotate a small amount (say 1 - 2 degrees) once the locking pin is locked in when mounted on the body. I have tried it on both the D200 and D70 bodies and it has the same symptoms. I cannot see that it is causing any problems with resultant photos. Just curious.

I can't say I have ever noticed any amount of rotation.

My D70 is getting repaired atm so I can't check.

I had the same with a 70-200vr on my d70s and d200... Seems it was normal.

For the record, my 30d does it with a 70-200 2.8 and also with a teleconverter

Yep same here, I have D50 and D200 bodies and it does the same on both. It was a bit disconcerting at first but after 6 months of owning it I haven't noticed any negative effect on my photos.

Any locking/unlocking system needs a small amount of movement otherwise it would lock so tight that you would not be able to remove the lens.

In the early 70’s Pentax had this problem with their screw mount and the only way to unlock the lens would be to literally smash the bottom of the camera on a hard surface

I've thought about doing this to a early 2000's Nikon. But not to get the lens off.....

yup on the d2x 2 degree movement

compared to the way the 70-200IS sits stiffly on a canon body

nikons have more allowance hence the slight movement
doesnt affect images

mine rotates more than a "normal amount" too. luckily the lens is round

Just had a try on both bodies, and it seems to have a little movement, tho nothing serious at all, maybe just an edge left over for temperature compensation at the extremes?

I also have a few degrees movement..
