A friend of mine has an opportunity to buy a used D2x.
How can you get the actual number of actuations from the camera...?.
And is there a way the camera actuations could be reset to lower the count before selling...?.

Take a picture in the camera using your CF card, then load the image into Opanda Exif reader software (Freeware)
This will tell you your actual shutter actuations.
I've never heard of anyone resetting the counter in the D2X, not saying it's impossiable, just a lot of hard work considering the end result.

And just like the number of kilometers on a car's odometer, that number is fairly meaningless and won't tell you what life the camera has lived through, nor will it be a predictor of how much life it has left.

I understand the number will not predict the remaining life.
I was told the camera has only been used on a few shoots, but if the shutter count reads 200,000, then I know it has had a much harder life...!
and the seller is not genuine.

It may tell you if some dickhead has set the shutter to high speed and then held his finger on the button until the battery went flat. A camera in good physical condition but a shutter count of 400,000 means exactly that!

Marty, from memory I think the image needs to be a jpg too. Maybe take one of each to be sure

Yep it can't read NEFs, but if you've only got a NEF you can just convert it to jpg and Bob's your uncle.
