Just received my Nikon 50mm/1.8 AF D lens today, and while it comes with a nice front cap, the only cap on the back is a push-on transparent plastic cover.
Doesn't Nikon ship proper rear caps as standard with their lenses?

My 50/1.8 also came with that plastic push-on cap. The only other lenses I have are the 18-70 (traditional black screw on cap) and the 70-300G (screw on cap, but I bought it second hand, so may not have come with it).
Doesn't REALLY bother me though, as I just about always have a lens on my camera, so I have enough screw ons to fit the other lenses.

Dave,
Nikon provides you a milky lens caps on those cheap (consumer) lens for keeping all the small screws + nuts + bolts, once you need to disassemble it.

Perhaps Nikon wants to "double sale" figure on the rear lens cap

But you can use these for a white balance setting check.

This is a test lens so I can check the focus (manual and AF) on Nikon bodies that I convert to dedicated infrared cameras.
So the push-on cap doesn't really worry me as I'm not about to use it in the field. Otherwise I'd be concerned about the cap popping off in a vest pocket, etc.
