				D200 "Digitutor"

				Hi there,
Looks like the D200 is almost out and about now.
Here is a link some people may find interesting.
One thing I just found out was that you can fine-tune the camera's metering system.... eg if you find that centre-weighted metering always underexposes by 1/3 of a stop you can set it to always increase the exposure by 1/3 of a stop (in a menu.....this is seperate from using the command dials for every shot)
Sounds like a dangerous feature to me (.... forget it's on and then you have posts all over the internet saying "my camera is under/over exposing.... the D200 sucks.... )

				Sorry Paul,
Am I as daft as most people think or did you neglect to include the link? I follwed the link in your signature but found no D200 story.
On the metering subject, it is my finding that both my Nikon D70s and Canon EOS 5D overexpose by about 2/3rds of a stop. I have not completed my investigation as yet but I have plottedchara cteristic curves of the devises in an attempt to get some correlation between my 1ยบ spot meter and the 'optimal' exposure. This is of particular importance where studio flash is concerned. True, the histograms do provide some indication of where everything is headed but they are not as precise as I would like. Hence the research.

Walter, if your D70s sells I think you owe it to us to obtain the D200!

				Onyx,
Of course the D70s has sold - it is a fine unit and mine had only made a little over a thousand exposures.
Did the D200 have its December 15 release - I guess we'd be a day late on this side of the planet? I do have one reserved as soon as they lob, but it is a matter of whether or not I choose to exercise the option. I figure that it could be nice with my 60mm Micro and 85mm.
I wonder how the D200 faires with the 35mm f/2? Can't say I was 'over the moon' with its performance on the D70s for what is effectively the field of view of a standard lens.
Hey, while you're there - wanna great little 45mm 'P'?
Cheers,

Paul
I have done exactly that with the same option on my 20D - set that accidentally. I do find it underexposes by about 1/3 stop sometimes ...

Stops and starts for me can't view the whole shebang. Let's hope the D200 hasn't these sort of teething issues

Another point whilst the picture gallery is made to look impressive notice no images taken with ISO over 400?? Doesn't fill one with confidence in terms of its high ISO performance.

Still happy I've ordered the camera though

Geoff even the simple photo slide show doesnt' work to seemlessly. They really need to get Gary and the boys on this site

cheers

I saw a D200 in Jessops in the UK yesterday... No price...
Unfortunately, Mrs. Leek noticed my lust and I was frogmarched from the shop before I could even ask them to get it out of the cabinet... I'll try to do better on my next encounter...

Interestingly, it seemed to have a 18-70 kit lens on it...
