Michael, Rally of Canberra is generally a great event to shoot. You won't need a 4WD. Spectator points are good, have a look for the Mineshaft, although speecy point is dificult to shhot well from, although, every time I've been there, this stage was early morning so lighting was difficult.

Several times, my family has volunteered as road closure officials. However, whilst you have to monitor your closure point well to ensure no vehicles or people stray onto the course, you do generally finish up with your own spot, athough you have to stay at you point until released. We have been lucky enough one year to have the cars past 3 times, which meant we could shoot from different angles and different lenses.

Hi,

the spectator points can easily be accessed - no 4WD needed at all.
I found viewing in the Kowen Forrest was good.
Last year the Kowen Forrest viewing areas could be accessed via a shuttle bus from the driver center (free pickup and drop off).
I didn't quite like the mineshaft, light harsh and no shade, you get cooked.
