I see on their website that it's scheduled for 11-12 March.

Just wondering if anyone was planning to go?

Absolutely. Can anyone recommend good locations? I only made it to Fairbairn & Kowens last year...the line into mineshaft was waaaaaaaay too long.

Go the Subies!!

Does anyone know when they're going to announce details and we can start to book tickets?

I've just bookmarked http://www.roc.com.au - there's no stage or ticketing info as yet, but keep an eye on it. You'll have to use IE for this site tho - it definitely wasn't designed for Firefox :x

Might have to pop down for the weekend. Will check roster, could be a good reason to meet a few more of you guys :D

Yeah, I'll be going. I'm looking forward to having the 80-400VR there this year rather than the 70-300G.

I'm pretty sure ozonejunkie mentioned that he's keen too.

The Mineshaft stage was sort of disaapointing last year with the partial stage cancellation due to a crash. Hopefully they've also cleaned up the parking area for the mineshaft - wasn't real good on the scooby's paintwork (still have marks :( )

Tip: bring dust protection of some kind  I found the hand out spectator bags to be quite good to stuff the D70 into after car passes through.

well, I thought about it.
Going to the mineshaft again.
It was stinking hot last year and very dusty.
I bought a ticket at the little caravan (demountable) right at the entrance.
I saw a lot of people walking through without anybody checking any tickets.
I have decided to NOT go again.
However the chance of getting spectacular photos relies on being there and being ready.
I have decided to leave this to the accreditated photogrophers.

However if you go:
take some plastic bags along. Put the camera into the bag before the dust hits you !!!

Have fun, good luck.
Show us your photos !!!

Cheers,
CD

I have gotten really excelent viewpoints in the past by being a volunteer! Free entry, free shirt and cap and tickets to the after rally party :-) Sometimes you just have to put up with 5am starts.

PostPosted: Thu Feb 02, 2006 8:43 pm
by cordy
Yeah but the problem being a volunteer is, unless u are doing a road closure its a bit harder to take photos as well as do your allocated job :(

Will have to give it a miss, but it would have been great to get some pics at the mineshaft. :(

Maybe next year I think (get some 'promo' shots for Rally Bathurst 2007!)

I'm trying to organise a train or bus up on the Friday night, never shot a rally or seen much of on other then a street course, so I'm looking forward to it. So far the plan is just to shoot one day, unless I absolute love it. Should be a fun experience, definitely hope my filters arrive in time though....

Are they resellable? I haven't bought mine yet - may be able to replenish your wallet. :)

PostPosted: Wed Mar 01, 2006 2:00 pm

Dunno if they're resellable. They've got my name on them.

I've offerred them to a mate at the moment. If he doesn't want them, I'll offer them up to a forum member.

Dont see why they wouldnt be, they've never asked for ID before at the gates..

No, that's right, they never do.

Not happy about not being able to go. I ordered the tickets when they were first released and was really, really looking forward to getting out there amongst the dust.

You mean you have to pay to go these events?
The Bega Valley Rally is free for spectators. Its on the NSW and Vic rally circuit. Usually about 100 cars. Lancer EVOS and the WRX Sti occupy about the first 20 slots and the you got your 20 yo Datsuns adding fun at the bottom.

Within reason you can get as close to the cars as you want. Watch out for the dirt and other flying objects!!

Here's a gallery from someone else who goes there

http://www.pbase.com/blacky_rally/2005_bega_rally

..of course my photos are better

but I'm in between hosting sites at the present.

Yeah but the Bega rally isnt a Asia Pacific round with some of the worlds best drivers ;)

Local rally's like Bega are always free, we have local rally's in Canberra quite often that are free.. Being a Asia Pacific round there is a lot more money involved

Starting Lists for ROC are out too if anyone is interested. Doesn't look like it will be a big as it has been in the past with only 42 Cars starting.

I've booked tranport to Canberra and will be attending on Saturday. Can you buy tickets somewhere on location, or do you need to buy them upfront.

Is it possible to still shoot parts of the rally without a ticket ?

Complete newbie here to Rally Photography or attending such events so please bear with me.

I just bought tix at the 'door' last year, but I can pick one up for you here if you like - I've got a Ticketek office at work :)

Not sure about any free locations - you could probably sneak in somewhere if you tried
