I have chosen this week's PotW.

It is an entrant from one of our newer members, Sheila Smart. However, Sheila is an accomplished photographer as many can attest, because she has posted a number of excellent pix since joining us here.

Sheila is also a Canon user, who, if memory serves me correctly, recently upgraded to a newer model. But as we all know, it ain't just the camera folks...

So, this is the image, chosen because of its delightful colour and detail, of a beautiful young woman on the ferry. There is something vulnerable and yet determined about those eyes. Look at the texture in the material of the headwear. I love the original uncropped image too, but I can understand the photographer's decision to crop out some of the more distracting background elements.

A most deserving winner, I personally feel you've challenged me to lift my game in the images I try to produce. I'm still keen to organise a shoot with your around Circular Quay sometime, (maybe when work isn't so crazy). Congratulations! And top choice Cricketfan!

Congratulations. As I've said elsewhere this is a great image. I think the tonal range works exceptionally well here and the strong eye contact really engages the viewer.

Definetly a winner. I thought it was utterly great the first time I saw it, and the uncropped version is great also. We're lucky to have such talented photographers to share their work with us!

Sensational shot, especially when you consider how it was shot (BTW, I love the original uncropped pic, and I think I actually like the framing better on it!!).

Hell, I can't get the lighting and exposure etc that good even when I'm not shooting candids through a window on a ferry!

Well done! I love seeing the PsOTW.. though I am not certain whether they are inspiring me to achieve the same quality, or sending me into a fit of depression that my work will never be as good

A beautiful portrait of a beautiful girl, with...a beautiful camera!
As previously said though, it's the photog behind the camera which REALLY 'makes'an image. Congratulations!

Thanks all. It has certainly become one of my favourite pix and I felt very lucky to get the shot. Yes, there is an element of luck in capturing images such as this. But it also helps to have such an excellent piece of equiment that is the 5D. I just did not have time to focus and expose and felt blessed when I loaded it to my hard drive

Here is the mono version which I may enter for this years B&W Spider Awards (again!)

Yeah, it's a shame that odds are she won't. However I did see two of my best friends recently in a photo of Kelly's, so stranger things have happened. :lol:

Gorgeous shot, Sheila.

As with Juztin, you have that special way to capture a person's mood and feelings. Tonal range is exquisite and this one definately should be entered into the B & W Spider Awards.

As for the "Afghan Girl", I walked into a second hand shop in MacLean (Nthn NSW) last year and on a shelf was a pristine copy of the Nat Geographic issue with the AG on the cover, which I purchased. Cost me 20c! We need to get your stuff in some of these publications Sheila.
