Nice colours on this one.

What are your thoughts on DOF? Also on composition. Is the crop OK - i was trying to "lead" the viewer into the flower by cropping the edges off. I dont do a lot of this type of stuff - so thanks for any learned knowledge you may be able to impart. :)

Its a good crop. The sharp stuff is very sharp which is a good sign. Clearly DOF fades at petals edges. I found the white stuff of the petals a bit distracting. You got right in there which helps keep it alive. Nature is beautiful up close.

Good work.

As the image opened up I though wow, great colours. Then the bottom of the image came into view and the initial impression faded. A sharp image which overall I like. :D

Lovely colours and I like the DOF too, it brings more attention to the flower, as it should.

this is a very nice macro photo, well done. f5.6 is probably a bit small in terms of DOF, especially for macro, however at the distance it seems you shot this at, even f22 would probably have not afforded you much more DOF.

The top half of the photo is really sharp and looks fantastic, the bottom petal, being OOF is a touch distracting, however as it was your intention to lead viewers into the photo, this still does a good job.

As for the cropping, the only thing I'd change would be to have included all of the top-most petal, & maybe even the lower left petal as well

Would it have been better with the bottom petal in focus ?? Probably, but everyone will have their own answer....

Good effort !
