Hi All, Well its seniors road race this weekend so i am stuck at the track again so here is a few shots from todays racing.For riders over 45.
With these oldies along come a lot of old bikes.


A friend of mine from Adelaide is down and well i just love this bike has taken some time to fix it up but wow it's worth it, a 1912 triumph.

Hi Piro, I only ever shoot hand held i cant seem to handle a monopod although i do have 1 but i seem to find it easier with out it, more freedom.
I tried it once but yeh i seem to like walking around doing all my shot hand held. I took a 200+ shots today, even had a side car come racing for me as they lost it coming around a bend so i was walking backward while shooting pics as they was spinning towards me but yeh they stopped. LOL

Heh talk about dedication. I'd probably do the same and realise too late I wasn't walking backwards fast enough

Dont worry mate some of the shots were out of focus from walking backwards and yeh waving the lens around a bit, but well that happens.

John - the Norton is a classic as are the riders - great pics

Nice pics . You have to love all motor sport as a photographic subject.

I love that old Norton... and the last one is a classic in every sense of the word... Good shots John... Show us the one of the sidecar coming straight for you...

I looked for the Exif data of your shots, but they weren't there.
After my recent effort with bicycles, I am curious about relative shutter speeds.

You have exactly the type of effect that works best (IMHO) with these action shots - sharp enough to capture the details of the rider and his machine, but yet still slow enough to blur the wheels and background as you pan, giving that feeling of speed to the image.

Can you give us some details, please?

Ok let me see if this works,this is for the Tumpy:

Exposure Time 1/250"
F Number F4
Exposure Program Shutter priority
Metering Mode Spot
Exposure Bias Value +0.33EV
Sigma 70-200 F/2.8 EX HSM

I allways shoot in Shutter priority and set the shutter between 160 to 250 with AF-C, this is the first real test with this lens and works well as i normally use the 80-400 but yeh i dont need that much reach as i have free run of track, ok im running a bit late this morning and its a bit wet will post a side car shot later on tonight.

Oh!! it was a rather cloudy day so i kept an eye exposure and adjusted accordingly.

Very sharp photos with lots of detail. Colours are very nice too. I am yet to try panning.
