Posted: Tue Apr 18, 2023 7:26 pmMark Whyte of Lyttleton created both sculptures to celebrate the town's recovery from the earthquake in January 1933.The statue with the dog is of Sheila Williams, the Carnival Queen of the ‘Napier Carnival’. The statue celebrates the elegance of women in the Deco period. The second bronze is of a boy who had climbed a verandah post to watch and is waving at Sheila as she passes by.
