Taken today, near the Collingwood end of Smith St in Melbourne

Couldn't decide between colour and b&w (I like em both)

I Prefer the colour shot here, the bright red really set the picture off
I'm torn about seeing so much of the street in the foreground, its interesting but not sure how it adds to the picture as a whole...

(as in they are two unconnected themes ?)

Would be a great image if not the blown out sky

I prefer colour version but it might be only me, because since I've returned to B&W film I don't like B&W conversions from digital

Sky was 3 stops lighter, if i had exposed for the sky, ground would have been black and no tripod to set and up and bracket shots

I could go GND filter, but its a bit of a hassle for on the fly street photography

I'm not big on the whole HDR thing - looks very fake to me

I'm beginning to prefer a more PJ approch with basic PP afterwards (sat, contrast, shapen etc) if needed

Prefer the colour version though the over-saturation kills the image a bit.

The b&w version lacks the grittiness and punch for an urban image. Try adjusting the shadows a bit more to make them a bit darker.

Colour for me. I love the way that the orange on the paving winds towards the red of the pub.
But then again I also like the B&W

I prefer the colour image - it's so crisp, sharp and colourful!! The angles and perspective work in its favour too.

I dont' think the 'blown out sky' is an issue. Well done.

This reminds me a little of Dee's work from Canada, and that's a compliment!

I love the colour shot. Have to say that I think the foreground makes the shot. The contrast between the alley way and main rd, the curved orange lines towards the red building. Great photo.

between the two i would say the colour... however if you use some imagination i think you could pull out a really great b&w... lots of contrast and more of a grungy process...

I much prefer the colour version. I think the bright red looses it's impact in B&W.

Dunno which I prefer...

The saturation both grabs me straight away in the first shot, but also makes me instantly think the red channel is getting pushed hard...

The black and white tones down(?) the bright red in the pub, but seems to change the highlight to the sky (to my eye anyway)...

Fantastic foreground and good capture of the moment too with the bike...

Hmmm, interested in some grungy B&W grain sir???

It is the colour shot for me. It would make a nice centre piece to a themed shoot of the area. IMHO
