I'm not an expert on insects and would have to check a guidebook later for an ID. But this is definitely a butterfly and not a moth: the raised wings are a giveaway.

1st and 4th are the strongest for me...

Do you know of any guide books that are exceptionally good? I had a look in a bookshop recently and couldn't find much.

My guess (as the son of an Entomologist, but not one myself) is butterfly, based on the wings and the antennae ... I have sent an email looking for confirmation though and will let you know what the answer is ...

Yup, it's a butterfly (due to nobbly antennae to be precise) according to CSIRO Entomology ...

Hi Greenie,

Yes, butterflies they are, due to clubbed antennae.

One of the best books on identifying butterflies is "The Complete Field Guide To Butterflies of Australia" by Michael Braby. He is the butterfly 'guru' and the book is well laid out.

Cheers

Michael

Hi GreenC :)

Sorry to have taken so long to see your email - have been down with a migraine :( This is indeed a butterfly, commonly seen on plumbago, hence the commen name plumbago blue :)

It's other 'common' name is the zebra blue, and its 'true' name is Leptotes plinius (previously known as Syntarucus plinius)

Beautiful shots
