Still processing the other spots, so here's the night shots first.

I must admit I am still getting used to my 580EX and was having a few issues with it and exposure. Not to mention I kept on setting off Marks flashes, meaning lots of my photos were way overexposed with my 580EX and multiple SB800s or 600s also going off

I was wary of these guys all night, being the tallest and most likely to plough into webs ...

And one which only the might Canon could shoot
Not the best - long way away, heavy crop (100mm), full power direct flash of the 580EX. But I just had to post it

dont mind the frog mouth, despite being over flashed still decent shot of this species.

like the moon also.

like the spider walking down the branch.

the frogs dont work for me though.

Thanks Steve.

I think my trouble with the frog is he was low to the ground and my flash was just too high - meaning lots of shadows.

I noticed that the SB800s etc are a very small flash - not very high off the body. My 580EX towers over the body, meaning its not great for macro as the angle is quite harsh thus poor lighting close up. After seeing the work of others - esp Slider who had his flash off to the side - I think I need to explore that and get the flash away from the body and on the same level as the lens.

a lot of people mount the flash off camera for macro work, or use various diffusers, even use a piece of cardboard as a reflector.

The shadows are what lets the frogs down.

Dion a couple of nice pics there..I do not know which camera body you are using your 580 on but the FEC feature works really well, just dial in -1 or 2 and you will be set..

Hey Dion - pleasure to finally meet you !!! Great shots - the moon is great, and the Pseudophryne (frog) shot jumping is brilliant !!! - shows the marbling on the belly and inside of the thighs perfectly, well done !!!

I hope you enjoyed yourself, even though we were a bit deficient in animals :(, but it figures that the canon got the shot doesn't it !!!! LOL

Hugs
