Hello all,
This is my first image post (so please limit your heckling

)
Some details: This was taken in my backyard recently with my D70 and a borrowed 70-200VR. This is just one of the reasons why I fell in love with that lens and why I really want one now (problem is just getting hold of one for a half decent price...)
Anyway, comments much appreciated...
Stephen

Stephen if you post in this section you are asking for a crtique and that is what you get like it or not, I should know
This iamge is IMHO very good. Nifce and sharp and the roo has a lovely expression. The pieces of grass in it's mouth are a very nice touch.

Wonderful photo of our national symbol. Terrific use of DOF to make the viewer concentrate on the subject. Well done.

In your backyard? That's a funny looking dog.
Great image. Shows that with a great tool (Camera+70-200) in your hands, you can take great images. This is no exception.

An excellent pic, first post or not. So why is it excellent. Well you've got a highly photographed animal doing something different - always a bonus. It's wonderfully sharp and in focus and you have the beautiful creamy bokeh that the 70-200 is renowned for. To round things off it's got great colour and is well cropped. Congratulations. Now that wasn't too hard was it.

Stephen - what a fine image!
The thing I like most about this image is that the 2nd (OOF) Kangaroo is amost mirorring exactly the chewing position with the main roo in the shot. Gold!

Hi Stephen, beautiful image! I love that you've managed to capture the second Kangaroo in (what looks like) the exact position as your main subject.
Look forward to seeing more from you

Let me start with some heckling.
Why did you have to take a nice well composed shot of a kangaroo. Go home, grab your camera and produce more shots like these to share in the forums. Do amaze us with your camera wizardry again! WHY, WHY WHY!!!

Thanks everyone!!! I'm quite taken aback by all the nice comments and words of encouragement

Very much appreciated! I will post more often but I fear it may be downhill from here on...
BTW, I had a rush of blood to the head yesterday and finally ordered myself a 70-200VR along with a D200! I'm very excited and the 70-200VR should arrive on Monday with the D200 to follow in a couple of weeks (hopefully before I head off to NZ... The D70 is going to my sister).
You can expect plenty of samples once the gear arrives!
Cheers,
Stephen

Terrific 'any post' stephen

This shot is a beautifully taken behavioural of a much photographed and much loved icon (if your not a grain farmer

) The 3 key features that make it a great image (as others have mentioned) are its tack sharpness, perfect differential focussing and the composition/attitude of the subject.
cheers

Thanks MATT, the price I got for the 70-200VR was $2845 (Aus stock), which will end up being $2586 after I get the GST back on TRS. Certainly not as good a price as others got theirs for here - I was all set to buy the lens grey from our friend Mr. Birddog but there are just none available, and haven't been for quite some time. In the end, I figured the price was close enough after the TRS and it would be crazy to miss this opportunity to take it to NZ. You only live once
marcotrov - thanks for your eloquent review!
Cheers,
Stephen
