Playing around with the 80-400 OS lens and got this one - the most impressive part is this was hand held at the 400mm end.

Did you use flash??

Nice shot Virgs but maybe you could have opened up a stop more? More detail may be pulled out of the shadow areas.

I like this pic Big V - pity it wasn't a little brighter though. I love looking at the moon, but it's only when you can see it in this kind of detail that you realise that we have a giant hunk of rock hurtling around our planet!

Love it!
Moon shots are cool imo and this is very good for a non-telescope, hand held shot for sure!

With all the hand held Moon shots happening lately, this was with my old 300mm + TC201 on Wednesday morning.

yes, its a bit oversharpened, it was also taken during the day!

One of these days I'll take a few through the scope with the D70.

Only they arent shadow areas- they are areas of terrain under full sunlight conditions, with a similar albedo to black coal, so the exposure is pretty spot on I'd say 8)

thanks. That sounds like a good destination ;) Hopefully you will get plenty of clear sky and not too much heat up there in the Flinders Ranges.

Absolutely no reason you cannot hand hold, the surface of the moon is lit by the sun so it the same exposure as a bright sunny day on earth.

Did you hear about the 2 blondes sitting on the verandah watching the moon rise?

One says " What one is closer the Moon or Melbourne?"

Her friend replies.

"Duh! Can you see Melbourne from here?"

Gordon, it was 41 in Adelaide today and 44 up there, so I think there is going to be heat...
