My tour guide Stubbsy showed me a stunning Gothic church in Newcastle which I could probably spend ages photographing the insides of.

Just gorgeous stuff, and your right its that kind of place you could photograph all day.

Indeed, 6049 was with the fisheye.

I did bring the IR, but with the lack of light available in the cathedral, while some looked great on the LCD screen, they don't look so good in PP.

Some have converted over to black and white quite nicely from the IR, but IR doesn't seem to make a dent in any of the colours in the cathedral.

And I'm still PPing images. I shot around 3gb of images this weekend and am going through them section by section...

The symmetrical one of the interior is the best one, gives a good feel.

If I was to choose one, I'd go the 5th one down.
Has the most information which leads to a conclusion. (I know what I mean! )

#5 #6 and #7 are sensational Leigh love the perspectives the exposure is terrific and you have really captured that Gothic appeal.

THe b&w conversion works great - creates a nice and moody feel it. 3rd and 4th are my pick of the bunch.

Damn you Leigh. I had three hours head start and I've got nothing ready to post yet. These are good, very good. Numbers 5 (fish eye) and 6 (corridor) are exceptional and work exceedingly well in B & W. I can't wait to see more PS Sadly there are some of my shots that are almost identical.

Great series Leigh,

the cathedral is certainly a classic icon here in Newcastle. The b&w works really well. As for others, the fisheye one is great. I also like the last one with the spider web.

The first few are nice, but for my taste anyway, I find the sky a bit too overblown.

#1, #2 and #3 - the angles are interesting but the Gothic appeal is missing with the contrast balance being too extreme.

#4 - I like this shot but feel that the heavy black on the left detracts from the 2/3rds composition on the right - maybe crop?

#5 - I like this shot too but would like to see just a tad more definition in the left and right pews.

#6 - The large expanse of white areas on the left does nothing for this shot IMO.

#7 - Maybe a different angle

#8 - Too much details detracting from the in-focus subject

After looking at the other shots Leigh I feel that the best were, in fact, the colour shots - some very nice pics.

I like your photos leigh, and I found sirhc55's critique very educational. Great thread!

I have my L's now, so when I get my P's Newcastle can be one of my first roadtrips! I'd definitely been keen to come up and hangout with you guys!

skillfull indoor shots, getting sharp results inside in lowlight is a challenge what ISO were you using images don't look that grainy and i doubt ou were able to bring a tripod inside the church

I have my L's now, so when I get my P's Newcastle can be one of my first roadtrips! I'd definitely been keen to come up and hangout with you guys!

Craig. the train comes all the way from Sydney to Newcastle and I can pick you up and drive you around. The train fare is $17 each way - about the same as it costs me to drive in my car, so who needs a car to come to Newcastle - just do it!
