Phenn,
Welcome to the forum, Nice to see another Melbourne member. The photos is excellent as a first attempt. It may benefit from some work in photoshop or equivalent. Contrast can be bumped up a bit, for example.
Keep them coming

Welcome Phenn, a nice photo to start with, and welcome to the forums!
Lovely reflections but I agree with Alex a little Post-Processing (PP) would bring out the shot more.

Welcome Phenn - one point to always keep in mind is how you saw the shot. If the lighting is comparable to what you saw then the pic is spot on.

G'day Phenn,
Welcome to the forum mate

Good first post, a bit of PP will make the contrast jump out but I reckon you've done really well. Been wanting to try some dusk/night shots along the Yarra but haven't got off my bum and done it, so good stuff...
Oh, a few Melbourne dudes will hopefully be getting together on Jan 21st, so if you're interested keep an eye on this thread

hi Phenn and welcome to the forums.
I agree with what has already been said.
Nice image but lacking some punch. perhaps increasing contrast would help.

Chris's point is valid and you should note it. I'd also play with contrast, but once you've looked at that it may turn out that the original still works better for you or it may not. That's the beauty of PP.

Thanks for the great replies. The shot is a fraction darker than it really was.
(though i was hoping to have taken shot when it was still a bit darker because there was a really nice orange reflection on the building, but i managed to catch every single traffic light on my way to this spot)
Here's my attempt with those adjustments. Certainly does make a difference:

I saw this shot on my way to work one morning and have been wanting to get back there for ages

But it took me ages to get up early enough on a clear day. This was taken at about 5:50am.

Phenn,
Like steve I think your new shot is great, and a significant improvement over the last one. Looks like you have the right motivation waking up early for the perfect light, well done!
