Very geometric composition. I like how all those long trianges (the railings, as well as light and shadow on the ground) draw you to that mysterious point in the distance, that doesn't quite reveal itself.

Any reason you didn't want the top of the lamp post in the shot?

Cheers
Steffen.

I like this shot, it is simple but has a lot to say, ........ the top of the lamp post included in the image would have improved this image a great deal......... maybe a lower angle closer to the rail lines........

nice composition,

agree that the lamp should probably have been left in, would provide some balance to this shot.

Thanks all.

The chopping of the lamp post was accidental  I was concentrating on other elements and missed it. I wanted as much of the foreground as possible in it as well as having the top railing at horizon level, plus I was racing to beat a large crowd walking along the jetty behind me - didn't want people immediately in front of me.

Here's another view:

Nice shots! I agree about the lamp shade but I also know what the crowds can be like!!! Well done...

You ever snorkelled under the jetty? I did once with my g/f and I swam through a BIG school of fish and she reckoned that one sec she could see me then she couldn't! And they stayed just out of arms reach! Would've been a great photo! Well time to save for the under water housing!!

Cheers

I like that second one, too. I think you've found a very good angle to take the shot from. The beach line leading straight in, and the jetty ever so slightly receding in the opposite direction. Also those gables and the little windows in peculiar arrangment - I love it.

The only that spoils the party a bit and distracts from a nice geometric composition is the amount of detail, especially those dreaded antennas. Maybe you can clone them out?

No I didn't snorkel, we were only there for a few hours. Walked to the end and back, had dinner, then departed for Perth. Must get back there one day.

Love that first shot, pity about the top of the pole but really like the way all the lines take me to the to the pier's end, terrific colour and contrast.

Wonder if using a gradient (from the top left) to even up the polarisation might bw worth a try?

Thanks Mudder.

I had some problems with strange sky gradients (in this and other pics) that I am still trying to work out a way around. A gradient fill may be the answer.
