Nice shot i think;

im looking at buying this size lens so can you give me an estimation of how far away from the bird you were?

Do you think that this size lens with the converter would be strong enough for surf photos or should i go to a 500mm lens?

Cheers John

You've done a really good job with this one Narelle. I know you weren't happy with the initial results but you've turned it into a real winner. Great combination of lens, TC and Better Beamer. My BB should arrive any day now ... :?

Thanks all :)

Glass eye - we were probably around 15-20 metres away from the bird, which was up a tree....... I love this lens, but have no idea on what to use for surf photos.... maybe post a question on the forum, because I know there are others in here that take brilliant surf photos!!! If you do get this lens, be aware that you can't use the 1.7TC with all of the versions .... I have the old AFS ED version which allows me to use the 1.7. Good luck

I tried my 70-200VR with a 1.7TC for surf photos once. It might work if you have a good location and possibly don't mind getting wet but something around the 500 or 600MM mark would be your best bet.
