Its a tricky exposure to get right Pete but you have done a reasonably good job. It has potential. :)

Wow... I haven't had a chance to try this sort of shot... not being close to rivers or creeks and not waking up earlier enough... but if i did I'd be more then happy with this, very nice atmosphere and you captured some wildlife in it too :)

Very nice Poiter :D I know how difficult these shots are. I would prefer if the middle clump of grass were not there though.

Thanks for the comments all.

Yes it was a tad early when i captured this one - Would have been around 5.45am.

"I would prefer if the middle clump of grass were not there though." ... yep, would open up the shot a bit more. Next time, more concentration on composition and not so much on avoiding stepping in duck poo or the bog patches

Almost makes me envious of early risers  This is a very emotive shot complete with, can I say this, a DUCK :!:

I really like this kind of shot. it's a very romantic shot. Not that i'm a SNAG or anything.

This is a great capture. While it would be better without the foreground reeds the reality is that life is never perfect. This is a quality shot you can be proud of and especially so given that it features one of our forum favourites - a duck

G'day Pete,
Wow that's a great first post, the image gives me a feeling of calm, nicely captured. Would have been an exposure nightmare so you've done really well...

Thanks for all the comments guys. Good to get constructive comments from different points of view.

Regarding the foreground, I was debating that myself as I was trying to give a bit better detail in the foreground, but the bright sunrise really made it hard to find a balanced exposure that didnt take away from the morning atmosphere. I guess i stuck with this, because i figured that the reality is that the morning is a bit dark and the essence of the shot is the sunrise in a natural watery setting - the mist was a bonus that added to the mood.

Favoured ducks :? :?: ... is that like the mystery subject for newbies like myself? Havent seen any reference to ducks in the forums so far ... a running joke?

Cheers,

Pete

Sad to say it's a little in joke. In earlier days there was a preponderance of duck shots here since, in photographic terms they are, well, sitting ducks (sorry  ) so easy targets for a shot. So it got to the stage where there'd be a collective <groan> when another duck shot popped up.

Perhaps this should be in the site faq!!!

I like this shot Pete - nice light, and looks like a beaut spot :) I don't have a problem with the foreground, the central clump of grass makes this pic in my opinion ;)

Excellent first post Pete. You have managed difficult lighting conditions well to produce moody and visually appealing image.

Nice shot in tricky light. I would of liked to see a continous line of grass in the foregroung just to hold it together, maybe by point the camera down a bit ??
