I'm thinking of going to the Eastern Creek A1GP on the 3rd/4th, but was wondering if anybody could provide details on whether the $250 you pay for the "Trackside" tickets (above the pit building) for the weekend is worth it, compared to the $124 you pay for a Grandstand Ticket. Photographically speaking, that is!

Do they just have regular admission tix so you can stand by the fence @ turn 2/3/5/etc...

Yeah, they have those too: $79 for the weekend - and at that price you can get 2 for the price of 1 for NRMA members. Wanted to know about the trackside, though, because I don't know whether the views of the pit, sausage sizzle and access to the paddock are worth it....

The rooftop/paddock pass would be great shooting wise . But the price is steep for the weekend.
Maybe go for the $120 for the saturday then just get a general admission one for Sunday or vice versa .That at least would give you a chance to walk round the back of the pit area for one day .General admission is a bit restricted i found last year in getting up close around the back of the pit garages . Forget about the grandstand .It blows . Offers next to nothing shooting wise .

Shooting off the rooftop sucks though?

Anyone who was there last year, myself included, can assure you you want to be on turn two. Every crash was there. Thats what you want!

They are charging more than V8 Supercars at Bathurst. Who are they kidding?

I was considering going, but I'm not 100% It will be worth the money spent.

It's bloody pricey.

You might be lucky and pick up an image you can unload to AutoAction or some other mag to make it worth it, but IMHO, if they want the series to take off and get people through the gate, $69 is a bit steep!

Just got an email from Ticketek - MyTicketek members get 50% off grandstand tickets if booked b4 end of month. Looks like there's some front row seats available too - at least there were when I got one

Having never been to the track before, what's the view likely to be like from the front row of section E? Any ideas?

Will probably go out with Little Sheepie on the Saturday and get just General Admittance (he gets in for nothing), and then go on Sunday and sit in the grandstand for at least part of the day

I dont think they have any discounts for any of the ticket classes except for the booking agencies like Ticketek and the NRMA that have discounts.

For those people that really like motor sports you can join the ARDC Australian Racing Drivers Club as a member at Eastern Creek. I believe you get tickets to certain motor sport events that are held throughout the year at Eastern Creek as part of your ARDC Membership. Im not sure about the A1GP but its something to consider.

I am lucky as I am geting to go as offical media as I shoot photos for an official magazine called "Auto Racing Magazine / National Karting Magazine". Its my first A1GP so it should be exciting.

Hi Everyone,

Dont be suprised if what Eastern Creek has told you is wrong and what actually happens on the day will be another thing. I have experienced some funny things there before.

I have sent an email off to my business contacts in London who run the media section of the A1GP World Wide and I will hopefully be able to tell you if they do have a lens restriction like they do for the F1GP soon.

Dont be upset if the A1GP suddenly do change there mind about what camera equipment you can bring in and what you can't.

This wasn't what Eastern Creek told me, but rather what one of the A1 organisers told me after she checked and called me back.

Eastern Creek didn't have a clue and told me to call one of the A1 organisers.

I wrote a letter to A1GP enquiries about photography at the event and their response was a partially reassuring - "We are only ticketing but we believe so long as there is no commercial gain and used for your own private viewing of your photos you should be okay" - to the question of whether I'd be causing problems if I rocked up with a 300mm lens. That's something at least.

From personal experience with not only eastern Creek but also major sporting events organisers they have a habit of changing their mind on what you can do and what you cant do at the last minute with photographic equipment.

I believe it would be good for everyone to bring in greater than 300mm lens. Knowing motor racing like I do, they do have scouts that will come up really friendly wanting prints off you for a friend, family member etc, they will then you how much you want to sell it for and as soon as you say a price they will nab you for it.

I have seen it happen at Bathurst and many other sporting events within Australia and Overseas. I have also professional collegues that have experienced this first hand aswell.

Well, it's being run by the A1 so I imagine if there are any major changes, they hopefully will inform media about it before it happens.

Hey Guys I am lucky to enough work for an official editorial publication even I have tryed to get some passes for my friends but even then it like pulling hens teeth.

Also if you arnt part of an official editorial they make you pay a small fee to get a media pass, similar to the way the F1GP is going.

If i find anything out ill post it up here for people to view as I have official access to the A1GP Press Centre site.

What's there to explain? I'm a member of a publication and I have press access to the A1GP Press site.

Hopefully your experience is better than mine at the MCG (Ashes) where I had an unambiguous email from the MCC communications director specificying what can't taken in or done and security formed their own opinion. Fortunately, it didn't stop me taking my photos.
