Hi all,

Decided to start a new thread for the Melbourne meet photos rather than making people have to sift through 5 pages of Greg's weather reports :P :P to get to the images.

Photos already posted by members:
* Stormygirl's
* Embi's
* Jamie's
* Waspo's
* Chuan's

Here's my few picks of the bunch (the rest can be found here):

I've learn my lesson about pre-packing and checking. Brought two camera batteries which were low :oops: + forgot the kit lens. It was good though forced me to not go snap happy and learn more about the 50 1.8 :D

Some creative shot licensing used :)

Look Daddy! Aren't you proud of me :D
Image

Maybe that wasn't such a great idea...

The sun will dry me off :P
Image

Mmmm...manual pre-focus ;)
Image

A bit more composition and repetition pattern work

Some mug and group shots :)

Sorry but I'm not sure who you are :oops: (I think that's the back of Nicole's head)
Image

Apologies, same reason again :oops: I really should start introducing myself to people...instead of being too engrossed with my lens :lol:
Image

Left is Ray (Baboo) and on the right is Hudo's daughter...Lauren:?:

Mmmm D2X
Image

Norm....can I borrow this for the day? :mrgreen:

Norm spots a target

Wonder if he'll notice if I casually slip this into my bag....

Hi Wayne, you've got some fantastic shots there. Some I never would have thought of... which is my main problem. :lol:
It's interesting to see how people take shots and what they see through their lenses. I'm learning alot.
Please post more guys.
Cheers, Jase. :D

Great shots everyone,
Looks like a good time was had by all.
Sorry I didn't make it - the wedding shoot from the preceding night ran late and I didn't get to bed until the early hours of the morning. :(
I woke up at 10 or 11 and cursed at myself for not making it out there, especially given the lovely weather. I was doubly cursing when I realised I missed a chance to play with the D2x. :cry:
Hopefully the next meet will be soon.

Thanks for the PM Joolz. Apologies to the people wondering why I had double posted some images :) This is why you don't make a post with multiple images and a collaboration of what people have posted when your brain is half functioning.

Some images of a "Chalk Artist" I took after the group had dispersed.

This is more my style. People photography. I have no hope getting good images of buildings and birds.

Great one embi :D Just out of interest, how did you take the photo of the chalk artist? Did you ask for her permission first? I'd like to do a bit more street photography too but not really sure what to do :D

Great shots Mark... judging by what I can see in shot #5, that lady has an amazing feel for perspective - that looks like Flinders St station from above...

Excellent pics everyone!

Piro, I love your one of Jeff's Shed. I took a few similar, but you seemed to capture what I was trying to achieve! Well done! <makes notes for next time!!>

Embi, yours are brilliant! 3rd one is my fav! Excellent stuff! Nothing like people shots in B&W.

I just start taking images.

I studied Photojournalism at PSC in Southbank and I was taught to just start taking shots. If you ask, you miss them.

Deal with the it after you have the shot. I can say I have never had a problem though. You just explain what you are doing and they think its special to be photographed. I always offer to show them the images though.

Its taking me awhile to get back into it after many years of not getting behind a camera but I'm starting to feel right at home again.

p.s. She did say that I had to make a donation after I started. I think she thought I was taking photos of her work rather than her as my main subject. :roll:

Thanks Embi. I plan to do a day of busking photography in the city :) If I need to make a small donation, I don't mind. It's going to help me as well as them.

On a weekend??? I'd be interested in tagging along. BTW its the first time I have had to "make a donation".

A few more pix from during and afterwards. The one with the seagulls was with the 80-200mm; the rest were with the kit lens.

 BTW embi, your B&W shots of the artist at work are really engaging. Although her illustrations are an element of your photos, but not necessarily the main point of them, now I'm curious about what her drawings look like in colour!

Excellent work, the Melbourne meet would have been fun.
You also get 4 seasons in one day.

Did i notice a D2x user in one of the shots down there?

Embi your work is very stylish, dark, contrasty and great subject matter
well done

Wendelt, that shot was of me with the D2X (the bloke with the brown parker coat on). I was playing with Norm's D2X. Wendel, you're a lucky fella :)

embi, thanks for putting up the colour shots of the pavement artist. I like the third one especially; the long afternoon shadows and earthy tones convey a sense of the time and concentration the artist has put into the work. I also like #2 for the detail.
