Computers make it easier to do a lot of things, but most of the things they make it easier to do don't need to be done. ~ Andy Rooney

I took the photo in China in 2005. I was doing a tour and the guides took us to lunch. After lunch, I went for a short walk and I saw this chef looking at me with curiosity taking photos. I ask his permission and I pressed the button. As a waiter, I saw the same scene many times after the big meal rush cooks and waiters needed a few minutes to relax.

Yesterday, March 7, the Glasshouse theatre opened its doors to the general public for the very first time, as the venue hosted a Community Open Day. This new venue delivers an additional 1500 seats to The Queensland Performing Arts Centre. The outside of the building has undulating panoramic glass walls shaped like the Brisbane River.

This image features a gull, likely a European herring gull (Larus argentatus), soaring against a scenic backdrop of mountains and autumn foliage. I took the photo in Tengelfjord near Raften, Norway. I hope you like it.

I took the photo of the five-story pagoda at Tōchō-ji Temple in the Hakata Ward of Fukuoka City, Japan. The temple was founded in 806 CE by the monk Kūkai and it is one of the oldest temples built by him in Japan. According to tradition, Kūkai or Kobo-daishi set up this temple for the eastward dissemination of Tantric Buddhism. The temple itself is associated with the famous Hakata Gion Yamakasa festival.

I took the photo during an Atlantic crossing. Using a Photoshop filter I turned the picture into an oil painting, of shorts. However, I remember taking the photo and thinking of the phrase, ‘Rearranging the Chairs on the Titanic’, which I used numerous times. It’s hard not to think of it when you are in the middle of the North Atlantic and cruising near where the RMS Titanic sank on 15 April 1912. This tragedy resulted in the deaths of up to 1,635 people, making it one of the deadliest peacetime maritime disasters in history. The Titanic ...

This cenotaph is the Tomb of Pope Julius II, an architectural and sculptural marvel, even in its reduced form, by Michelangelo Buonarroti. It is in the basilica of San Pietro in Vincoli in Rome. Pope Julius II commissioned Michelangelo to design his tomb in 1505, but the work was several times postponed; there were six projects, and did not begin until 1542. It took till 1545, more than forty years to be completed. Pope Julius II died on 21 February 1513.

Senglea, also known by its title Città Invicta, is the fortified city in the Port Region of Malta. It is one of the Three Cities in the Grand Harbour area, the other two being Cospicua and Vittoriosa, and has a population of approximately 2,720 people. The city's title Città Invicta (lit. invincible city) was given because it managed to resist the Ottoman invasion at the Great Siege of Malta in 1565. The name Senglea comes from the Grand Master who built it Claude de la Sengle and gave the city a part of his name.

I took the picture at the Gallery Of Modern Art (GOMA). This rear projection is part of the artwork of of the Icelandic-Danish artist Olafur Eliasson. Behind the large screen, wall size, different reflective and rotating objects are illuminated with beams of light and their light reflections on the screen produce phantasmagorical abstract shapes that move, merge and morph into other shapes. An allegory, perhaps, of the events and circumstances that shape our lives.

I took the picture of the Mediterranean Sea as the sun set in Gandia’s sandy beach in mid-December. It could have been in late spring or early Autumn, beautiful sunny weather, neither cold or hot. The miles long beach has sun loungers, umbrellas, bars, sports grounds, toilets, showers, and restaurants nearby.

First of all my apologies. I have been away on family business and unable to post these last weeks.

I took the picture of this handmade cake in Madrid, just before Christmas. The Kings cake is normally eaten in the feast of Epiphany (6th January, when Spanish children get their presents). The day celebrates the arrival of Three Wise Kings to adore Baby Jesus, and marks the end of Christmas. The cake itself dates back to the Roman feast of Saturnalia. The cake had a hidden bean inside and the person who found it was proclaimed king for the day. ...

The picture shows the driving wheels and motion components of a steam locomotive. The horizontal bar connecting the wheels is a coupling rod which transfers power from one driving wheel to the next. These components convert the linear motion of the piston into the rotational motion of the wheels. These parts are essential for the locomotive's movement along the railway tracks.
