Three shots taken at D'Albora Marina, Nelson Bay this weekend. The first shot REALLY annoys me since I think it's a really nice capture and dumps on the pics I entered in the last comp & it's a 10 second exposure :evil:

All three shots were taken with the 24-120 VR. The first two have VR turned off, the third has it on since it's hand held.

24mm, 10 sec, F4.5, no PP other than a slight levels adjustment.

This shot was taken earlier the same day heading towards dusk.

Peter I have no idea how you get those colours, but they are certainly part of your style. The third pic is the one for me.

I'm going to be a horizon nazi and say that the first one is a little bit crooked. It's leaning to the right.

Can I suggest blocking out the lights on the right of the second one? The effect you have here is quite amazing

...yet more inspiration from the gang

I like the night versions.
with the first one being my favourite of the lot.
Just like the contrast beween black and white but with a hint of colour.

The water is glassy smooth and makes the shot.

Bernie - Wish I had a flash that bright :wink:

Leon - there was a slight breeze and the boats moved occasionally. I worked out the rhythm of the boats and took 8 shots during the period they were stillest. This one was the sharpest. I was amazed when I saw this on screen since it was obviously NOT in need of any PP work. Never noticed the lights - too lazy to go back and remove them.

Steve - I've been trying to get this shot over 4 visits to this spot and my aim was to get exactly what you've described. B & W but not, with that lovely glassy water. I can move on now. :wink:

Wayne - I have a thing for high sat blues. The third shot had heaps of PP (mostly using the wonderful Nik Color Efex filters I bang on about). The image below is what I started with (except for resize for web). Who says the camera never lies! Needless to say I'm NOT a purist when it comes to PP.

The first 2 shots are spectacular. You have captured imagery that is easily of professional quality and the pics would be easy to sell. The last pic has had too much PP as I could spot the messed up tonality as soon as I saw the image. Keep them coming. :lol:

certainly getting good use out of that tripod. The first two are great. I'll have to stay for a night shoot for the next NB outing.

Had a real problem choosing between the first two.

Matt - too much PP for #3 was the only way I could recover a shot whose composition I liked. What I really need to do is get to the same spot earlier when the light is not so harsh.

Peter - GREAT shots, and I particularly like the first one...I think (and shun me for saying this) had you posted that first image for the comp, you would have been in there with a fantastic chance of winning the entire thing! Well done mate...excellent work. PS - Do you have your jacket back?

Geoff - I'm really bummed about this. While I don't think it's as good as Andre's Bogey Hole shot I think this is the best image I've done yet and it could have been a contender :cry:

And yes I have the jacket. Got it at the weekend. Thanks for looking after it for me.

Peter, i dragged my sorry butt out of bed to check emails and have a quick gannder here as i have the cold from hell and to see these pics mate, all i can say is they are bloody beuatifull, i love them and wish i could be in a place like that now. Well off back to bed well done mate keep it up.

The first two are stunning mate, love the reflections and the deep darkness with the touch of colour... It must have been soooo still...
